Under the guidance of the DPS Society, DPS Guwahati was promoted by the Gyan Sarovar Foundation, a CBSE-affiliated English medium, and the co-educational school opened its doors for the first batch of students on 21 April 2003.

DPS Guwahati campus stretches over 22 acres hosting beautifully tended lawns and professionally designed sports grounds; it houses five spacious blocks for the junior, middle and senior sections. The school houses a well-stocked library, a bookshop, a canteen, a music room, a basketball and tennis court and an outdoor swimming pool. The school also houses language class laboratories.
